Age of Empires III DE: Machu Pichu

Summary

A map proposal set in a South American or Central American style environment, playable in solo or multiplayer skirmish mode. 2 to 3 players.

This map offers an exclusively land-based strategic approach. Each player starts in a corner of the map on the first level of a natural pyramid.

Players draw closer to each other each time they ascend a level until they reach the summit, which has the smallest area.

Map Design Description

1.
Players start on the first plateau. Near their starting point, there are only minimal resources to begin with. This will compel them to follow along the cliffs. The center player is slightly more at risk, adding an extra challenge since they can be attacked from two fronts.
2.
Along the edges of the plateaus, there are abundant natural resources. Players must manage these resources at the base of the cliffs that form the upper plateaus. This might sometimes lead to the construction of a colony that is more spread out than concentrated.
3.
There are at least two natural access points per plateau.
4.
Indigenous nation villages that can become allies are only accessible from the second plateau.
5.
The area of the plateaus diminishes from one level to the next, encouraging increasingly close combat. Additionally, natural resources decrease from one level to the next, except for mines. On all levels except the summit, the mines are silver mines with 2,000 gold units.

Design Intentions

A.
A player can decide to outpace an opponent by attacking very early and not waiting to reach a high technological level.
B.
Alternatively, a player can take a gradual approach and expand their territory lengthwise. Accumulating resources zone by zone. Gathering their forces and launching one or more large-scale attacks on their opponents.
C.
A strategy that leverages the map's topography would involve surprising opponents by quickly establishing bases or defensive and support buildings on the higher levels. Given that there aren't many access points, a player with the advantage of height can bombard a lower opponent or concentrate their troops at the entrances of the levels.

In general, the map is likely to create multiple fronts at once, both on the sides and vertically.

Players will need to demonstrate military intelligence since, while attempting colonization or attacking an opponent at one end of a plateau or on a different level, another of their bases further away or on a different plateau may become weakened and offer an opportunity to an opponent.
